tell me

[postcard front]

So my grandiose ideas of walking the streets of the Edge and talking with people this past week was a non-event due to a still-lingering sickness that has overtaken my family one member at a time since last Sunday – the 17th! Rather than contaminate the neighborhood with my germs we’ll leave that to some insidious printed matter. I worked out a logo for the stuff to keep it consistent with the group project and the neighborhood identity, and I learned from helpful group feedback that business cards and postcard sizes are the more desirable for distribution. I also made a letter size poster version – but it is not designy. At all. (I will post it last here.) So it may change, but my goal is to get SOMETHING up, and all things on order before I have to split town. It’s lofty, I know.

The phone line is up and working, custom message and all. Please call it. Tell me stories about your experiences in the Edge. I have run some tests and the transcription is hilarious. It writes things like “okay” and “baby” quite often in place of low voices, regardless of what they sound like they are saying. It’s weird and wonderful.

call me. do it.

the good, the bad and the ugly, i want it all.

You should call so that it’s not just my stories. Seriously. I can’t be the only one callilng or I’m going to have to block my number and start disguising my voice. Run time is 3 minutes for leaving a message.

In other news, I reached out to Ellen Roberds who headed up the Memfix Edge project and performed the research and recommendations. I understood from her that they have a full report of research and recommendations from their work here. There was a huge desire for green space, vertical gardens, use of or beautification of or removal of the many chain link fences. Plus we discussed the normalcy for Europeans, used to city walking, to take Madison or Monroe up from downtown, where tourist Americans tend to take Union. The signs installed by Mike Todd were partly an effort to direct that foot traffic through the Edge. I am still waiting on the rest of the report. Will inform.

I reached out to the Spillit Storymobile (& Leah Keys) to see if that would be a helpful conduit for reaching out in the Edge. (Reaching in?) Perhaps it would be a good fit for the day that Cedar does his tea table? It could be a visual/physical attraction – the awesome trailer I mean – helping to encourage locals to engage. Thoughts?

So that is where I am at currently in my research mission. I have the front and back of the postcard mostly done – will try to include those photos here. And a letter sized poster to hang up around town. Also local graphic artist in the Edge Pam McFarland made us a cool logo we might could use for something? Thoughts? Feedback? And see y’all soon.
