One no brainer; Music related public art.
With the traditions of Sun Studios and Sam Phillips studios, there is really no escaping the musical history of the edge district. Moreover, there is no escaping the musical history of Memphis as a whole.
With that said, I feel pretty strong about the idea of public art related to the history of music and contemprary music being installed in the Edge district. Knowing that Memphis is a music tourism hub, it only makes sense to capture the traditions and continue the traditions of Memphis music.
Examples of simple things we can brainstorm about:
This takes us into the age of Hip-Hop, a genre that many consider to be the heir to the soul music throne.
Here is another example of public art that we can do to pay homage to the musical history. Install a mural with all the legendary Memphis artists who recorded in Edge.
Art with plain messages will be a great thing to add as well. It tells the patrons what we think they should feel while being in Edge viewing art or just walking down the street.
These are just a few examples of what we can start brainstorming about. The musical history of Memphis is way to strong to have an opposition from many people on this. To me, it's a sure fire topic.
