Proposed Project: Madison Ave. Mural Proposal

Location of piece (please include a photo of where the work will be placed):

Give a brief description of the proposed artwork: This mural is intended to relieve the space of its blight, by re-using its existing colors in a completely reorganized fashion. The mural is about value and subtle hue shift in color theory, where the optical effect of Mach banding occurs.

State what aspect of your research findings inspired this project: The fact that The Edge is still very much an automotive and maintenance area inspired this design, which is mechanical and patterned. The image is conceptually based on the diamond-patterned steel plating found on floors, steps, and tool boxes within the auto shops.

Give a basic timeline that includes the following; fabrication, installation, duration of work, and de-installation (if applicable). Mural should take about 3 days to complete.

Describe any special installation or site preparation needs: Light scraping and priming, which I can handle.

If your proposed piece is meant to be permanent, what kinds of long term maintenance do you foresee? The mural image is flat and colors presupposed to a grid, so any kind of vandalism can be easily mapped and repainted according to paint plan.
