State what aspect of your research findings inspired this project:
Spending these last months researching the Edge District has allowed me to really sink into the “feeling” of the neighborhood. Within the Edge, rich colors emerge through its decay creating a rich industrial palette. These recurring hues of rust and peeling paint are a constant reminder of the beautiful urban decay found in the Edge. Incorporating this Edge Palette into the Murals will preserve the uniqueness of area and highlight its maker spirit.
Give a brief description of the proposed artwork:
Ten Garage Doors on Union, Marshall, and Monroe will be painted in Edge Palette Colors and then overlaid with an Edge themed image. Edge Palette Colors were selected from hues located on buildings, signs, and alleyways throughout the neighborhood. Edge images were chosen according to recurring themes of cars, repair shops, and past transportation references. In an effort to establish a collaborative spirit, all images will be decided on with the consent of the business owners. These ten Edge Garage Murals will help link the neighborhood businesses together and add even more character to the Edge District.
Timeline
Week 1: Create 10 Projection Drawings (3-5 days)
Pick up paint & other supplies (1 day)
Week 2: Paint 10 Garage Roll-up Doors with primer if necessary (3-4 days)
Paint 10 Garage Doors with base color (3-5 days)
Week 3-4: Project Drawings onto door (1-2 weeks)
Week 5: Corrections (1-2 days)
